Ruby: How's it going, Frank?

Frank: Ah, well, you know what it's like with teenagedchildren.

Ruby: Having a rough time?

Frank: Let's just say that I'm looking forward tothe end of the teenaged years!

Ruby: That bad, huh?

Frank: I supposeit could be worse. I mean, my kidsaren't intodrugs or smoking cigarettes...

Ruby: Not that you know of, anyway!

Frank: Good point.

how's it going?/ how are things?/ how are you doing?used for asking someone about their progress or their general situation (用于询问某人进展或近况)最近怎么样?

roughadj. [rʌf] a rough period is one in which you have a lot of problems or difficulties (同义:tough)(日子)艰难的,困难的,不愉快的

let's just say (that):used to say that you are not going to give someone all the details about something (不愿吐露全部细节)这么说吧

look forward to (doing) sth: to be excited and pleased about something that is going to happen 期待、盼望(做)某事

huhinterjection [hə] 1. used after you have said something to show you are asking for agreement(用以征求对方同意)哈,是吧

Pretty cool,huh? 挺冷的哈?

Not a bad place,huh? 不错的地方哈?

huhinterjection 2. used as a way of showing that you do not like, believe, or agree with something(表达不喜欢,不相信或不同意某事)哼

(it) could be worse: used for saying that a situation is better than it might have been, although it is still bad 还好啦,还没有太糟糕

Could be worse. At least you didn't lose any money. 还好啦。至少你的钱没有丢。

I mean:used for adding a comment or explaining what you have just said 我的意思是

We couldn't live on that! I mean, it's ridiculous. 我们不能靠那个生活!我是说,这太荒唐了。

kid n. [kɪd] achild 孩子

She'd always loved animals since she was a little kid. 她从小就喜欢动物。

be into sth: to like and be interested in something 喜欢……,对……感兴趣

anyway adv. [ˈeniweɪ] used when stating a particular fact that shows that something just mentioned is not important 反正……

‘Sorry about the stain.’ ‘Never mind, I was going to have it cleaned anyway.’“抱歉弄脏了。”“没事,反正我要洗了。”

I don't understand politics, and anyway I'm not really interested. 我不懂政治,反正我也不太感兴趣。

(Day 185) I need to go to the office supply store anywayto make a few hundred copies for a project, so it will be on my way. 反正我也要到办公用品商店去,我有个项目要复印几百份材料,所以是顺路的事。

point n. [pɔɪnt] a single fact, idea, or opinion that is part of an argument or discussion 论点,观点,见解
